Mixing things up with the Fuji X20

Ten years ago I bought my girlfriend a small camera: the Fuji X20. She’s not using it that much anymore. It is time for me to give it a go, and use it to boost my creativity.

I want to use the X20 in a way that is unlike my other cameras (uji X-T2 and the X-Pro2) where I have a style dialed in. I want a camera that I can use without thinking, and just point and shoot at whatever I feel like.

This is going to be a camera for experimenting and fun. I want to be able to try out new things, and challenge myself in ways my “serious” cameras can’t do. The X20 fits the bill.

How I shoot with the X20

The X20 is set to show me a square image on the back screen, and with a black and white film simulation. I shoot raw, so the square crop and black and white ptresent is just a tool for composing. Whenever I see something, I shoot it without thinking about it too much. Almost like Daido Moriyama. I let my subconscious take over. Shoot, leave and look the next opportunity

When I get home, I will import the images into Capture One. Then I will crop them automatically in a square format, and I apply a Tri-X 400 film simulation from Digistock. If needed I will adjust exposure a little bit, but I try to get the image how I like it directly in camera.

The images makes me think of when I shoot with a Hasselblad and Tri-X back in the early 2000s. I need to experiment more. These images are from my first time trying this, and I already love the images and the process.
